Stress isn’t something we can always control – but we can manage it and minimise its impact. Help keep happy and healthy with these easy stress management tips.
Listen to music
Nature sounds, instrumentals and classical music may not be to your personal taste – but if you’re feeling stressed out, they may just do you good. Music therapy has been one of the most mind-blowing means of reducing anxiety, lowering heart rates and improving your mood. Experts state that the brain’s response to music can even help to ease pain and depression.
Take time out to tune in to some slow soothing sounds while you enjoy a moment’s peace.
Aromatherapy
Stress can be mentally and physically draining. The theory behind aromatherapy is stated to stimulate the olfactory system in the brain – the part connected to smell -, which in turn sends signals to the limbic system – the part responsible for controlling emotions.
Using aromatherapy to inhale soothing or comforting scents like lavender, vanilla or rose can help to reduce stress or anxiety levels.
Reach out
If you’re running on high stress levels without an outlet, you’re heading down a path of destruction. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take time out to call on a friend or family member to talk about what’s playing on your stress levels. Sometimes, hearing a reassuring voice is all you need to calm down and put things into perspective.
Get moving
From yoga through to a high intensity workout, getting up and active will give your brain a dose of feel good chemicals, while allowing your body to rid itself of unwanted tension and stress. Exercise will also help you to relieve stress by focusing on a single task, taking focus away from daily tensions through movement and physical exertion. It can lower symptoms associated with mild depression and anxiety, while improving your sleeping pattern.
