Don’t we all wish we had more time in the
day?
In this post I’m going to show you a few
tips to improve your time management and hopefully free up some more time for
yourself.
Apply
the 80/20 rule –
Often the truth is that we don’t
need to be doing a lot of the tasks that are consuming our time. Ask if what
you’re doing is actually important, or if something else would be a better use
of that time? Prioritising the right things doesn’t actually give you more
time, but you get a lot more impactful work done in the time that you do have.
Plan
ahead –
The more you plan in advance, the smoother
things will go. You’re going to be most efficient if you have a schedule that
you follow. Use a calendar or diary for your personal life the same way you
would for booking in meetings at work. This way you never get stuck not knowing
what to do next, and you can let go of worrying about all the things you have
on your plate. Simply schedule them and address them when their time comes.
Delete
or remove time wasters –
Stop watching TV, remove
social media apps. Anything that is a non-productive time sponge can be removed
or deleted and you will regain so much ‘dead time’ that was previously lost to
procrastination.
Multi-task when appropriate – You might have heard that multi-tasking lowers focus and that is generally true, but it is a powerful tool when used correctly. You can always listen to something while you’re commuting, driving, cooking, cleaning etc. If you’re sat waiting for something you can bring a book or some work to do. Make use of time that is occupied but doesn’t require full engagement.
