For husband and wife Genesis members Craig and Angela Johnson, working out together is part of a happy marriage. Married 21 years and gym buddies for 10 years, the pair were always active in sports separately but decided to start with a personal trainer to focus more on strength, fitness and improvement of overall health.
They workout four to five times a week, often sharing a Coaching Zone session together and enjoy having one another’s support.
“It strengthens our relationship because it is time that we have dedicated to spend together with a common goal,” said Angela.
“Plateaus and motivation can be a hurdle which is where we find having another like-minded partner is really helpful to get through those barriers.
“It’s great to have accountability for attending each session that you book together, sharing each other’s successes and motivating each other when the alarm goes off at 4.45am.”
While they’re both motivated by their own health goals, the pair who met while travelling overseas also have their kids in mind.
“We both want to maintain our health and fitness for as long as possible for the most enjoyable lives together with our family while also being good role models for our children as they become adults.”
While Angela and Craig are very competitive with one another in the gym, they say it’s a positive thing and has never tested their relationship.
“Our advice to other couples thinking about working out together is be consistent, be supportive of each other and most importantly, be able to have a laugh together.”
