Many women avoid strength training workouts like they are avoiding the plague. How often have you heard a woman say she will not lift weights because she does not want her body to appear all full of muscles? The reason they are doing this is because they are not aware of the benefits or strength training and how to lift weights.
The truth is it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to build muscle! Not just from weight training, but your diet has to be on track as well. There are certain benefits to adding muscle to your physique that you should not ignore.
First off, your body fat percentage will be going down. Muscle burns fat and calories even while resting, so adding some lean muscle mass to your body will give you an internal furnace that is constantly burning calories. In addition, you will feel better and your clothes will fit better. Women spend money on clothing that will flatter their figures and make them feel better about their bodies. However, nothing beats the feeling you get from a regular fitness routine.
If you are interested in starting some weight training, but have no idea where to begin, you have three options:
1. There is always the possibility of hiring a personal trainer for a month until you have a solid strength training routine established
2. If working one-on-one with a stranger is not your thing, there are group fitness classes that incorporate weight training into the exercises. Sometimes it is just easier to learn in a group.
3. There is a good chance you have a friend, that does weight training already. They would probably be more than happy to have a new workout partner. Make sure you choose someone that seems to know what they are doing.
All of these options will put you on the road to improving your overall health and fitness.
