The importance of gut health

Date: Nov 08, 2018    By: Genesis Fitness

It all comes down to the gut. If your gut is not happy, then you won’t be either. By knowing what symptoms to look for and knowing how to help your gut function properly, you can save yourself from experiencing some horrible days in your future.

Symptoms of Gut Problems

People often write off an upset stomach as the flu or just something they ate. But heartburn, a stomach ache, gas, diarrhea, and constipation can come from problems with your gut. Don’t be so quick to blame it on the exact food you ate. Food intolerances tend to spring up out of nowhere and most attribute it to food allergies. But it could really be all about an unhappy gut.

Constant fatigue can be a side effect of gut problems as well. You may be thinking you’re just run down from your busy lifestyle, but it could be because you haven’t been listening to your body. In fact, autoimmune disorders can first rear their ugly head starting in your gut.

What You Can Do

You don’t always need a doctor to fix your gut issues. You might be able to fix these problems on your own by eating a cleaner diet.

The first step is to eat a wider range of foods. Leave the overly processed foods on the shelf, and stick with fruits, vegetables and meat. Also start taking some prebiotics and probiotics. The prebiotics are a dietary fiber that act as a fertiliser for the good bacteria in your gut. The probiotics are live bacteria that help with breaking down the food in your gut. Investing in these will cost much less than a trip to the doctor and will guide you back to being healthy.

If you find you aren’t feeling better after taking these steps, it’s always recommended to see a doctor or dietician.
