5 family-friendly activities to try this month

Date: Feb 08, 2024    By: Genesis Fitness

Summer is our favourite season, and we could go on for *days* about why, but some of our top reasons are 1) the days are longer, 2) the weather is warmer and 3) the best variety of fruit is in season. So, with ALL this in mind, we've compiled our top five ways to make the most of everything it has to offer:

1. Go for a hike

Don't be fooled by the word "hike". This can mean anything from walking to your local shops to trekking somewhere rural and staying overnight. The beauty of hiking is that the whole family can get involved, from choosing the destination to making the journey and enjoying time together. Hikes are also an excellent way to move your body + create memories that'll last for life.

2. Lap up the sunshine

Sunny outside? We recommend making the most of the weather and visiting the beach to complete a cheeky lap or two. Plus, the water is an excellent place to burn energy and prepare your little ones for a good night's sleep.

Tip:

Invite another family to join in the fun for a day filled with nothing but lots of sand, laughter, and time spent outside in the great outdoors.

3. Set up an obstacle course

Do your kids thrive on the *high-energy* side of life? We recommend harnessing their energy with an obstacle course. This can feature anything from conventional activities like hopscotch and running to out-of-the-box tasks like reading challenges and maths quizzes. This will get them moving and sharpen their cognitive skills in a fun and interesting way.

4. Get your cook on

Summer doesn't always equal nice weather, so cooking is a brilliant wet-day timetable idea to keep in your (apron) pocket. You could do this by cooking a healthy meal together or setting up a full-blown cooking competition. We've compiled some of our favourite nutritious and delicious treats to get you started here.

Summer snack idea:

We recommend combining an assortment of in-season fruit in a bowl and topping it with a drizzle of lemon for a simple + easy dessert. Think peaches, cherries, and mangoes. What’s your pick of the bunch?

5. Flex your skills (together)

Did you know? Most of our clubs offer memberships to people 12+ years old and over. So, they're a fantastic place to exercise together in the comfort of a safe and supportive environment. Visit our FAQ page to find out more. The longer days also mean you can get to the gym after dinner for a post-dinner treadmill sesh or suss out one of our Group Fitness classes - the options are endless.

Can't remember the last time you hung out as a family? You already know what to do.
