Introducing: The Very Special Kids 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge

Date: May 20, 2024    By: Genesis Fitness

We're proud to announce that we'll be supporting the Very Special Kids 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge for another year in a row. Very Special Kids provides holistic palliative care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions. It does this by providing tailored support for their families and loved ones. In this blog, we've covered everything you need to know about this year's 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge.

This year's 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge will be held at 321 Glenferrie Rd, Malvern VIC, AKA – Very Special Kids headquarters. The Challenge will kick off at 9am on Friday, May 24. The goal? To help keep the treadmills in nonstop motion for 24 hours to help raise $900,000 for seriously sick kids who need 24-hour care.

Every minute on the treadmill can make a minute of care possible for a child or young person with a life-limiting condition at Very Special Kids House. Very Special Kids House is Victoria's only children's hospice, offering free-of-charge services to more than 800 families. 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge participants help ensure the families in their care receive the support they need.

These inspiring participants must keep their treadmills in motion. They will be motivated by MCs, pumping tunes, and continuous food and refreshments to keep the energy up all day (and night) long.

Very Special Kids encourages teams to enrol with no admin fee. Instead, they ask participants to set a fundraising goal of $500 per 30-minute slot or $24,000 for the total 24 hours to help the children, young people, and families.

We'll be supporting the 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge in collaboration with the team at NovoFit to supply five treadmills from the following clubs:

Plus, we're so excited to share that we'll be supplying a 10-Day FREE Pass to all participants to prepare for the Very Special Day. These passes can be used at most Victorian Genesis Health + Fitness clubs from now until 31 July 2024.

We'd like to send a HUGE thank you to our amazing franchisees for their kind-hearted generosity and support of such an important cause.

Gearing up for the Challenge?

We've summarised three exercises to get you tready ready for May 24.

Including:

Eagle Pose

This pose is perfect for runners because it focuses on strength, flexibility, endurance, stabilisation, and concentration. It's also excellent for easing lower back pain and sciatica, increasing blood flow to the hip flexors, calves, and ankles, and opening the shoulders and upper back.

Walking lunges

Walking lunges are an awesome way to strengthen your glutes and assist with running speed and endurance. Did somebody say, "Improved core strength and body coordination?"

Deadlifts

Want to improve your strength? Deadlifts are a great exercise to start with. They are fantastic for the glutes, legs, core muscles, and back strength. When you begin to get fatigued on a longer run, your body can slump forward, limiting your breath work and increasing muscular inefficiency. By deadlifting, you will improve your posterior chain (i.e., muscles down the back of your body), keeping you upright and running for longer.
