How to stay active with a busy lifestyle: A guide for gym
goers
It can come as no surprise that people don’t find time to
exercise. In fact, by talking to members, one thing we know is that building a
routine and creating time to exercise are the keys to success when it comes to
a busy and HEALTHY lifestyle.
Here are some practical tips and strategies to incorporate
exercise into your busy schedule. Learn how to create a routine, make the most
of your workout time, and prioritise your health and fitness goals.
Here are our tips to give you the best chance of getting active
with a busy lifestyle!
Build a routine
From the transformation interviews we have conducted
learning about people’s fitness goals and achievements, we hear the same thing
a lot of the time. Literally the same thing. A healthy lifestyle might mean Mondays
are a group class, Tuesday a treadmill run. Wednesday is for a long ride and
Thursday is a rest day while Friday is a strength session and Saturday is
cardio. However you structure your exercise routine, having a routine means
you’re out the door and ready to exercise before the logistics of the day have
a chance to slow you down!
Workout to your mood
While a routine is the most reliable of fitness strategies
in getting the step count up and generating those feel good endorphins, there’s
nothing to say you can’t switch up your exercises to suit your mood once you’re
at the gym. If the regular sesh isn’t bringing you joy, try something
different, or add an interval or incline, or check into a class to bring some
positivity back to your efforts!
Minutes can be enough
Only got 10 minutes? It’s actually enough some days! 15
minutes even better, 20 minutes – brilliant! You don’t need to schedule in hour
long sessions to get the best exercise, consistency is better than endurance
when you’re scheduling activity into your busy lifestyle!
Train on your terms
If you do only squeeze in a 10-minute session in the morning,
maybe you could get back again in the afternoon for another fly through? It all
adds up and breaking it up into achievable blocks might just be the difference
between doing something…or nothing!
Dress for your success
Getting dressed in gym clothes to start the day, or having
an outfit that converts easily at lunchtime can help eliminate a mental barrier
in a busy day! There are so many choices when it comes to active wear that you
can layer effectively, so you’re ready to bounce out the door and spring into
action!
Take the time for you
There’s no doubt life can be very busy, but staying active and looking after your body is an investment into your mental health, overall wellness and it does not have to be complicated or hard. A healthy lifestyle can be quick and consistent and some days, that’s enough!
