This holiday season is coming quicker than you can say, "The turkey's ready," which means it's only a matter of time until we're making awkward small talk, eating Pavlova, and playing strangely competitive card games — in no particular order. Although Christmas is typically associated with too much food and sedentary behaviour, it doesn't mean you have to leave your routine on the shelf (next to that world-famous Elf!).
In this blog, we'll be sharing our top five ways to get moving this Christmas:
1. Go for a family walk
Spent too long reminding your Aunty what you do for work? Try suggesting a family walk to the masses, and you'll be sure to find a taker or two. This is a great way to make room for dessert and is sure to create a core memory experience for any little ones who may be in tow, especially if you happen to walk past a playground on your travels.
2. Treat yourself to the gift of (Genesis) Health + Fitness
It's no secret the holiday season is the perfect time to dedicate some time to rest and recovery and treat yourself to something for yourself — like a Gym Membership. This is a great way to prioritise yourself and get moving, before, during and after the holiday season. Not ready to commit? You can try us with a FREE trial.
3. Try something *different*
Always wanted to try rock climbing or kayaking? We recommend making the most of the holiday season by putting yourself out there in the name of staying active. It could be revisiting an old hobby after an extended work-induced hiatus.
Tip:
Picture a physical activity you used to do when you were younger. Maybe it was basketball with neighbours or backyard cricket. Have something in mind? You know what to do.
4. Put your balance to the test in a Reformer Pilates Class
Love a sleep-in? That makes two of us, but the holidays are a great time to swap your bed for one of the Reformer Pilates variety. Reformer Pilates is a great way to strengthen your core muscles and move your body with a series of low-impact movements. Like the sound of what you're hearing? Find a Reformer Pilates Studio near you.
5. Jump on a bike
No matter if you're staying local or heading elsewhere this Christmas, there's no doubt you'll be enjoying some extra time to live life a little slower than usual. This is a great opportunity to leave your car in the garage and get moving. Staying local? Walk up to shops. Or visiting a brand-new city? Hop on a bike and experience everything it has to offer rather than sitting in a car. Cities have a range of dedicated bike lanes that have made it easier than ever to ditch your car for a bike ride or two.
