Not
many people associate weight loss with yoga. They believe it is more just about
becoming flexible and meditating while holding several difficult poses.
However, yoga can actually help you lose a few extra kilograms.
Muscle Burns Fat
Muscle
will burn calories even while you are sleeping. The more muscle mass you have,
the more calories you will be constantly burning through every day. Yoga
requires you to perform several bodyweight exercise movements and hold them for
a certain amount of time. This is actually strength training to a certain
degree. With this in mind, you are unknowingly building muscle mass during
these yoga sessions and this will help to get rid of those pesky extra kilos
you have been carrying around.
Hot Yoga Anyone?
Hot
yoga will burn away about 200 calories in an hour session. You may be coming
out of the class a couple of kilos lighter than when you entered, but that is
mostly because you have sweated out extra water weight in the 40-degree room.
But just like a sauna can help you burn calories and flush the toxins out of
your body, hot yoga can, too.
Choose a Challenging Class
If you have any experience at all doing yoga, you realize there are different levels of difficulty in each class. If you want to lose even more weight, choose one that is more strenuous than what you are used to. Plus, being around like-minded fit individuals in the class will inspire you to keep on with your yoga training. While the weight may not be flying off exactly as yoga is not usually one of the most strenuous activities, slow and steady can win the race and at the same time you are limiting your chance of injury plus increasing your flexibility.
